As a manufacturer of bicycle parts and accessories, I often get asked by bicycle shops how they can increase sales. My advice is to offer a wide selection of parts, components, and accessories to help customize, upgrade, and personalize bikes for your customers.
With the growth in cycling specialties like road, mountain, commuting, cargo, electric, etc., riders are looking to tailor their bikes to their needs and style. Carrying components like wheels, drivetrains, handlebars, saddles, pedals, and more allows riders to upgrade their stock bikes. Smaller parts like cables, housing, stems, seat posts also generate sales for replacement and repairs.
Don’t forget accessories! Helmets, lights, mirrors, phone mounts, racks, fenders, bags, baskets all add functionality. While items like pumps, tools, lube, tires, tubes, pads, levers facilitate maintenance and repairs. Bike computers and power meters collect riding data.
And don’t underestimate impulse purchases of items like bells, grips, bar tape, bolts, reflectors, and stickers that riders appreciate being able to pick up conveniently.
Organize and display parts and accessories attractively to grab customer attention. Location near checkout counters boosts last minute add-on sales. Bundle items like helmets with locks, or seat bags with tools for more profit.
While complete bike sales have lower margins, parts, components and accessories drive higher profits. Carrying a wide range allows customization that enthusiasts love, attracts more customers, and improves overall shop profitability.
Let me know if you have any other questions! I’m happy to help bicycle shops boost sales and profits.
